Biometric SDK | Fingerprint, Vein, Face Recognition, Plam and Voice

BiometricDirect provide the widest range of free and premium biometric SDK solutions, from leading premium middleware solutions and  SDKs, from Delaney FP-Lite Middleware to free SDKs provided by vendor manufacturers.

If you need help in selecting your biometric SDK, then please just ask.

Number of Users

The number of enrolled templates (and users) is the single most important factor when selecting your biometric SDK. Why? Because biometric matching, the process via which a user ID is returned, is a 'fuzzy matching' algorithm. The larger the database, the slower and less accurate the matching process is because of the exponential drop-off of accuracy and speed. If you need to scale above 500 users, then its likely you will need to invest in a premium SDK.

Generally speaking we find that SDKs fall into the following categories:

  • Basic SDK: Up to 500 users (e.g. free ones provided by manufacturer)
  • Intermediate SDK:  Up to 5000 users
  • Premium SDKS, up to 50,000 users natively, over 5,000,000 with additional hardware.

The first decision that you should make is which biometric modality you wish to use: fingerprint, finger vein, palm vein, iris, voice or another biometric modality. There is no single right answer, but it usually balance of accuracy, convenience, scalability and cost to mention a few factors.

  • Iris is the most accurate biometrics, with vein a close second for accuracy  but significantly cheaper and perhaps more user friendly.
  • Fingerprint is the most popular biometric modality, and multi-spectral readers give very good accuracy but cost more.
  • On mobile devices with low numbers of users enrolled, then face recognition or voice can be very good options as the input devices are already present. Traditionally, these biometric modalities are not as scalable, but they are improving all the time.
